Thornley, Coxhoe and Horden’s centres will be open Monday to Thursday between 10am and 4pm, closed Fridays.

They will be open from 9am until 3.30pm on weekends and during Bank Holidays.

All facilities will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Coun Brian Stephens, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, Durham County Council, said everyone has a responsibility to dispose of their waste in a legal manner at centres such as these.

He said “Household waste recycling centres are an extension of household recycling facilities and provide the perfect solution to dispose of larger items free of charge.

“Everyone has a personal responsibility in ensuring they manage their waste legally and these centres can help you do that.”

Waste produced by businesses (commercial waste) is not accepted at household waste recycling centres.

Business waste must be disposed of legally at an appropriate licensed facility or by arranging a commercial waste collection.
