The move might make way for Martyn Waghorn to join the Teessiders, after the Sun claimed Boro are 'closing in' on a £7million deal for the Ipswich Town striker.

Leeds have been chasing a striker all summer, after attempts to sign Derby County forward Matej Vydra stalled.

The Whites then turned their attentions to Bamford, with reports surfacing last week that the two clubs had agreed a fee.

Shortly after completing the move, Bamford tweeted: "Now that everything is finalised I’d just like to thank @Boro and everyone associated with the club for this past year and a half. Naturally There were ups and downs but I enjoyed every minute of it. A special mention to the fans who always gave me their full support.

"You guys were amazing and I honestly can’t thank you enough. The time has come for a new chapter but as a club you’ll always remain in my heart. Thankyou x"

The striker spent two spells on Teesside after joining on loan at the start of the 2014/15 season, when he scored 17 Championship goals.

He then signed for Boro permanently in January 2017.
