From our long and rich history and beautiful coast to legends and traditions, there is lots to be proud of.
Here, we look back at some of the iconic people, places and events that have made Hartlepool what it is.
1. St Hilda's Church
The stunning St Hilda's Church on the Headland. Saint Hilda came to Hartlepool in around 648 AD to take charge of the double monastery of monks and nuns. She later became the first Abbess at Whitby. Photo: Frank Reid
2. Historic Headland

3. Andy Capp

4. Legend of the Hartlepool monkey
One of the most famous stories known by people not from Hartlepool is the legend that the town hung a monkey during the Napoleonic wars after mistaking it for a French spy. The story has inspired stage and radio shows and Hartlepool United's mascot H'Angus. Photo: Northern Stage
