A member of the public alerted police after finding a body on the beach near Newburn Bridge in Hartlepool, at around 8pm on Monday, July 20.

No formal identification has yet taken place, but Cleveland Police officers confirmed that they have informed the family of missing man Mark Reid.

The 43-year-old had been reported missing on Sunday, July 12, after visiting family in the Hartlepool area and police have been appealing for information to find him.

Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

In a statement Cleveland Police said: "Police were called at around 8pm last night, Monday, July 20, by a member of the public who had located a body on the beach near Newburn Bridge in Hartlepool.

“Whilst no formal identification has yet taken place, officers have informed the family of 43-year-old Mark Reid, who had been reported missing on Sunday, July 12, after visiting family in the Hartlepool area, and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
