Town man Ste Smith, who runs the Body Doctors boot camps at The Domes, is planning to raise money for Miles for Men next month.

And he is doing it by co-ordinating a 119-kilometre bike ride followed by a 19-mile run around Hartlepool when he gets back.

The marathon effort is called the Body Doctors Charity Challenge and all this will happen in one day on Saturday, July 4, starting with the bike ride from Appleby to Hartlepool at 6am, with Ste and long-time friend Scott Gray doing this part of the challenge.

Then comes the run starting at King Oswy, with members of his boot camps taking it in turns to run a mile-long section (although one member, Anthony Wheeler, plans to run all 19 miles).

It will finish with a final mile heading to The Domes at Seaton Carew.

Ste hopes to raise £500 for Miles for Men through a Just Giving fundraising page and said: “We have up to 300 people doing the boot camp here each month. Everyone is part of the family.

“We are trying to cover every part of the town on the run.”

From King Oswy, the run will follow a route to Bishop Cuthbert, Ward Jackson, Grange Road, Church Street, Oxford Road, Catcote Road, Brierton Lane, Owton Manor, on to the seafront and along to The Domes.

He said he was helping Miles for Men because of its focus on helping people affected by cancer, and said its founder Micky Day was ‘always there for everyone, for anyone who needs any help’.

The challenge was praised by Miles for Men founder Micky Day who said: “We are overwhelmed that Ste has taken this massive challenge on board.

“The Body Doctor has made a difference in so many people's lives with the boot camp. Knowing Ste, this challenge will be tough but they more than capable.
