North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has launched its #BringBackStaff campaign. Bosses have described it as a call to arms for retired nurses and doctors who are considering returning to the front line.

Faced with an unprecedented global pandemic, the Trust has sprung into action to make sure there are as many clinicians as possible ready to join the fight against coronavirus.

The appeal is calling for nurses, doctors and allied health professionals to join up.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and General Medical Council (GMC) have dedicated pages on their sites where clinicians can ensure that their registration is up to date.

After that, they should then contact the dedicated team on [email protected] to express an interest in working at the Trust.

Dr Deepak Dwarakanath, Deputy Chief Executive and Medical Director at the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are looking for clinicians from across the board, we need all of the experience we can get.

“We are not just talking about treating patients who have contracted the virus – daily care must still continue too. We are asking you all to do something great, lend a helping hand and join us in our fight against COVID-19.’

Julie Lane, Chief Nurse and Director of Patient Safety and Quality, said: “Now more than ever we need to strengthen our workforce. We are calling on the expertise of retired clinicians living within the region, or even those who have left practice for other endeavours but might be considering a return.

“This is unchartered territory for us all, but the more of us who come together today, the more of us who will be here tomorrow.”

NHS England confirmed on Sunday, April 19, that 722 people who had tested positive for coronavirus died across the North East’s hospital trusts.
