Hartlepool Borough Council had been due to start emptying residents' brown bins again from Tuesday April 7 after the winter break.

But they will have been suspended until further notice as the council looks to manage resources and focus on frontline services including household waste and recycling bin collections and street cleaning.

The council has apologised for an inconvenience but says these are ‘exceptional times’.

Residents are asked to consider home composting, or garden waste can be taken to the council’s Household Waste Recycling Centre in Burn Road with a maximum of four bags per visit.

Tony Hanson, Assistant Director (Environment and Neighbourhood Services), said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are in extraordinary times and I hope residents can understand why we have taken this decision.”
