Dance group featuring Blackhall hopeful wins rave reviews on BBC One's The Greatest Dancer

Talented North East dancer Kieran Price is living the dream after making it through to the live finals of prime time TV show The Greatest Dancer.

The 20-year-old from Blackhall Rocks is part of contemporary dance group Brothers of Dance who won rave reviews from the show’s judges and have been chosen by former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl to mentor.

The nine-strong group received a standing ovation from the audience and judges when they auditioned on the show screened two weeks ago.

They are now one of just 12 acts who will perform in the competition’s live finals beginning on Saturday, February 1.

Kieran, a former triple freestyle world dance champion, met the rest of the group in London where he is studying at the prestigious Urdang performing arts academy.

His proud mum Kelly Price, 38, said: “This is his dream. From him being little all he wanted to do was pursue his career in dance.

“I’m over the moon for him. All the family are proud.”

Show host Alesha Dixon told the boys their audition got the best reception from the audience that day.

Dance captains also heaped praise on them. Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse said: “That was the best performance that we have had.”

Fellow captain Cheryl said their routine was “incredible” adding: “It was so powerful, so beautifully executed; like delicate but strong.”

And Broadway and Glee star Matthew Morrison said: “There is not a weak link. You boys are phenomenal.”

Over the next four Saturday nights each of the dancers must take on a challenge with their dance captain to try to win viewers’ support and keep them in the competition.

The winner of The Greatest Dancer will receive £50,000 and will perform on Strictly Come Dancing.

Kieran who family including sister Bethany, 22, brother Callum, 16, stepdad Darren Johnson, 36, and nana Irene Magee, took up dancing when he was just nine and attended Trimdon’s Dance It Live It school.

Kelly added: “Kieran’s over the moon to be captained by Cheryl. I think she will take the boys far.

“I just want them to get the recognition they deserve.”

The Greatest Dancer is on BBC One on Saturday at 6.30pm.
