The Liam Gough night is held every November at Rovers Quoit Club in Easington Road in aid of Alice House Hospice and since it started has raised about £27,000.

Alice House Hospice was close to Liam and his family’s hearts as it cared for Angela before she died in 2003 aged just 54.

Last November would have been the annual fundraiser’s 13th year and is usually a sell out featuring live music, a raffle, auction and other activities.

But after its cancellation due to Covid restrictions, John and Ann still wanted to raise some money so they asked for donations from friends and family.

Hospice senior communications manager Greg Hildreth, who normally attends the event, said: “We were delighted to hear from John and Ann, who have shown great dedication by raising a fantastic amount of money, despite being unable to proceed with their usual plans.

“This is massively appreciated and as always, the money will be used to support local patients and their families. Sending huge thanks to John, Ann and family and all who supported them.
