Fundraisers from West Hartlepool Rugby Club set for Santa and his Elves Run for hospice

Members of West Hartlepool Rugby Club are getting into the festive spirit by taking part in a Santa and his Elves Run in aid of the town’s Alice House Hospice.

So far, 15 members of the team have signed up to take part in a half marathon run on Saturday, December 5 – with a Santa followed by his elves.

The 13.1 mile run will take the runners from the rugby club, and through Hart, Brus, Marina Way and Seaton Carew before finishing back at the club.

Janice Forbes, community fundraiser at the hospice, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to West for arranging this fun event.

“This has been a difficult and challenging year for everyone and it amazing the amount of support we have received from the local community.”

Matthew Tyres, from the rugby club said, “As a group of lads from the town and it’s surrounding areas, we’re all aware of the fantastic work Alice House do.

"A few of us have seen first hand the support given to loved family members over the years and wanted to give back anything we could to help.”

He added: “Because of COVID-19, their fundraising for the year has been hugely affected.

"This important service relies on fundraising to allow them to continually support people of Hartlepool and East Durham.”

Alice House Hospice, in Wells Avenue, Hartlepool, is a registered charity offering specialist palliative care, counselling and support to hundreds of adults from Hartlepool and East Durham each year.
