Happy faces as Hartlepool care home celebrates wartime spirit with VE Day garden party

Residents at a Hartlepool care home shared in the wartime spirit by celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day with great garden party.

Local vintage singer Yvonne Slater visited Dinsdale Lodge in Seaton Carew while observing social distancing.

She sang a number of songs from the era and read passages of rousing speeches that had everyone cheering and waving their Union Jack flags.

The home pulled out all the stops to make the event special despite the lockdown restrictions with decorations, staff wearing vintage clothes, and specially decorated cup cakes.

Activities coordinator Donna Robinson said: “They absolutely loved it. It was a nice sunny day and passers by out on their daily exercise waved to the residents and they waved back.

“They are coping really well and we do daily activities that have received some lovely feedback.”

The home is embracing technology to message and receive photos of family members and residents are sending postcards to loved ones.
