The hospice’s Fundraising Team say they are delighted to cautiously reopen registration to events – the first of which being a Socially Distanced Memory Stroll on Sunday, September 20.

The annual event, which sees people gather for a peaceful Sunday morning walk on the Headland in memory of loved ones, had originally been due to happen in April.

It was postponed, along with all other upcoming events, following the global coronavirus outbreak.

Once again, the walk is being sponsored by Hartlepool’s Co-operative Funeralcare.

Walk organiser Nicola Winwood, of Alice House Hospice, said: “We were really happy with the success of our first Memory Stroll and with the help of all our walkers, the Heugh Battery Museum and of course our kind sponsors Co-operative Funeralcare, we were able to raise a fantastic £2,500 to help provide hospice care for local patients and their families.

“We are pleased to relaunch the Memory Stroll as our first ‘actual’ fundraising event since February.

“We’ll be implementing social distancing measures and following government guidelines to ensure that the event is safe for everyone.”

The circular route of around two miles will start in the Town Square in front of the Borough Hall at 10.30am.

Start times may be staggered depending on numbers.

Daniel Laughton of the Co-op, who also takes part in the event with his family, said: “It is great that we can be involved again in this event, having been a part of it since the start – we are very proud to have contributed to its success and I am really looking forward to taking part this year and helping the event to grow and develop.

"Hopefully we will raise even more money this time for a fantastic local charity. I am also really pleased that the event can finally proceed after months of uncertainty and hope that lots of people will be able to show their support.”
