The BBC Tees presenter’s celebrations are going ahead in 2020 after they were postponed last year following the sudden death of mentor John Myers.

A show just before Easter will feature Harry Cambridge, who is renowned for his acclaimed theatre portrayal of the soul legend Luther Vandross and his music.

Paul, who hosts weekend lunchtime shows on BBC Radio Tees, explained: “Last year marked 25 years for me on the radio here in the North East and I wanted to enjoy the anniversary with some special shows around the area.

“It also tied in with the fact that Century Radio was launched on September 1 in 1994.

“I had all of the proposed dates in place. But then in the summer we were all devastated with the death of our boss at the station John Myers.

“I just felt it right to postpone the anniversary celebrations as we were all still in shock.

“He was the man that taught me so much and I will be forever grateful to him.

“John had his own plans to remember the 25th anniversary of the station and it just felt right to scrap everything at that very sad moment.”

Paul added: “I am thrilled that Harry Cambridge will kick off the celebrations.

“His Luther Vandross tribute show is taking the theatres all around the UK by storm. They can’t get enough of him.

“Harry has won awards and appeared all across the globe headlining with his tribute to one of my very favourite singers.

“A quick glance via social media will show how Harry’s portrayal of Luther is unquestionably the greatest out there right now. To have him launch the series of events is truly brilliant for me.”

The event is taking place on Thursday, April 9, at The Hub, Teesside University, in Southfield Road, Middlesbough.

Harry will perform all of the famous Luther tunes including Never Too Much, Stop To Love, Álways and Forever.
