Dave Barker, his wife Nina and their daughter Rachael completed a walk of some 44,000 steps or around 20 miles in the Lake District in aid of the Rotary Charity Account which will benefit local good causes.

Following the example of inspirational Captain Sir Tom Moore, although some 30 or so years younger, Dave said they enjoyed the day climbing the Cat Bells fell on the shore of Derwentwater which is around 1,500 feet high.

After lunch at the top they took the hard walk down and then proceeded around Lake Derwentwater finishing there at 6pm.

Rotary Hartlepool President Carol Menabawey said: “This is a tremendous achievement by Dave and his family to boost the Charity Account funds which will be used to support local charities who have suffered during the current pandemic.

“The members offered their congratulations at a recent Zoom meeting.”

Rotary Hartlepool has helped a number of local causes including, earlier this year, £500 to St Aidan’s Foodbank, £500 to Hartlepool Baby Bank, and £250 to Springwell School for sensory equipment.

Mrs Menabawey added: “Rotary in Hartlepool will continue to support local causes as we have done throughout our existence since Rotary was formed in Hartlepool in 1923.”

Rotary is one of the world’s leading membership and humanitarian service organisations, with 1.2 million members globally and help causes and charities from a local to international level.
