Hartlepool youngster aged four raises over £400 for Bradley Lowery Foundation and church food bank by walking 6k

Caring four-year-old William Lloyd went to great lengths to show his support for two great causes by completing a six kilometre walk.

Despite only having little legs, William and mum Kim Lawson, 33, walked 3.7 miles from High Hesleden in County Durham to their Hartlepool home.

The 6k in 6 Days Challenge is a new fundraising campaign by the Bradley Lowery Foundation which raises funds for medical treatment in memory of Blackhall youngster Bradley.

William has raised a fantastic £400 so far which has been shared equally between the foundation and St Aidan’s Church food kitchen in Hartlepool.

His proud mum Kim, who works for Hartlepool Borough Council and is currently helping to distribute food and PPE, said: “One of the things he has been learning about with nursery is people that help others and what good charities do and how a lot of people can’t afford food.

“I saw the Bradley Lowery Challenge and asked William if he wanted to do it and he said yes.

“We are over the moon. I don’t think he understands how well he has done and how much he has achieved.”

Kim, partner of Carl Lloyd, 33, and William completed the walk on the Hart to Haswell Walkway on Sunday, May 17, in just under two hours.

They were joined for the second half by William’s granddad Kev Lawson for a bit of extra support.

It was certainly the furthest William had walked at once.

Kim, of Hart Station, also mum to Thomas, aged 22 months, added: “We’ve done quite a bit of walking while being in lockdown but not that far.

“When we got to Hartlepool Golf Club he said he was shattered and wanted to give in but we were nearly home by then.

“He had a little lie down on the grass and walked the rest of it.”

The family well and truly smashed their original target to raise £100, passing £400.

Everyone who completes the 6k in 6 Days Challenge and raises at least £20 gets a Bradley Lowery Foundation medal.
