Hartlepool youngster on course to complete 101 mile bike ride for Alice House Hospice

Kind-hearted Hartlepool youngster Joshua Moir-Young has got on his bike during lockdown to ride the equivalent distance to Gretna Green in Scotland for a great cause.

The 12 -year-old Dyke House Academy pupil is cycling 10 miles a day to complete the 101-mile challenge and has raised just under £1,300 so far for Alice House Hospice.

Joshua wanted to do something to keep fit whilst school was closed, but after talking to neighbour Deb Robson, who works for Alice House, he decided to raise much needed funds for the patient care services which the hospice provides.

He started on April 29 and is due to finish on Friday, May 8.

Joshua said: “I am so shocked at how much money I have raised so far. I only expected to raise around £100.

“Everything has been so exciting. I even got to go live on Greatest Hits Radio yesterday to tell them what I’ve been doing.

“I really hope I can do Alice House proud.”

the hospice and his mam Jodie has been supporting him throughout his fundraising.

She said: “We’re so proud. He likes to be on his computer so for him to come up with this idea and see how hard he has worked is astounding.”

Both are very proud of Joshua’s achievements.

He has also inspired his two younger cousins to start fundraising for Alice House.
