Hartlepool’s Iceland unveils fresh new look after major refurbishment

A supermarket giant has reopened its doors to the public following a major makeover at its Hartlepool store.

Iceland, in Skerne Road Trading Estate, Hartlepool, temporarily closed earlier this year for a full refurbishment.

It reopened to the public on Thursday, February 12, and has undergone a substantial upgrade, including a new and refreshed shop front.

The interior has also been completely redesigned “to make the store easier to navigate” and new self‑service checkouts have been added, “offering more flexibility and helping to keep queues moving during busy periods”.

Kristian Barrett, chief operating officer at Iceland Foods, said: “We’re committed to investing in our stores to ensure customers have the best possible shopping experience, and the Hartlepool refurbishment is an important part of that.

“We’re excited to welcome customers back into their newly updated store and the improvements – from the refreshed layout to upgraded fixtures and new customer‑friendly features – are all aimed at making everyday shopping simpler and more enjoyable.”

The store is also celebrating one team member who has spent 29 years working there.

Long‑serving colleague and deputy manager Ian Lacey said: “I’ve worked at the Hartlepool store for nearly 30 years, holding roles from stock supervisor to deputy manager, and in all that time there’s never been a dull moment.

“I’ve stayed so long because I genuinely enjoy what I do and because this store means a lot to the community we serve.

"I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone back and continuing to serve the community for many years to come.”
