10. Johnny Hammond
Comedian and actor who never forgot his town roots after finding fame on ITV's New Faces talent show in the 1970s. Although he moved to Southport, he was proud to tell people he was from Hartlepool - as he used to remind the Mail when he rang us with his latest story. Died aged 77 in 2007. Photo: Other 3rd Party
11. Chick Henderson
Former Galleys Field School pupil who became a nationwide big band singer in the 1930s and 1940s. His version of Begin the Beguine sold more than a million copies. Tragically killed during the Second World War in 1943. Photo: Other 3rd Party
