'He's left a fantastic legacy': North East's biggest fan of the Royal Family pays tribute to Prince Philip

Prince Philip, who was married to the Queen for more than 70 years, died yesterday morning, Friday, April 9, at Windsor Castle.

Monarchist Anita Atkinson, from County Durham, has been among those to pay her respects to the Duke, the longest serving consort in Britain’s history.

She has spoken of her experience of seeing and meeting him during visits to the region, including carriage-riding trials, at the opening of the Millennium Bridge and to mark the Queen’s Silver and Golden Jubliees.

His influence over his family, and kings to come, passion for preserving wildlife and the climate were also noted, but she spoke passionately about his relationship with the Queen, calling them a “double-act”.

In her video, she says: “He’s left a fantastic legacy but nothing really more than how he’s supported the Queen.”
