The original target figure for the sponsored crop was £1,000. However, Jessie’s mum, Kayleigh Neesam, set up a JustGiving page and the latest total stands at around £1,300, with more money to come.

Jessie’s dad, Mark Crutchley, works offshore where he has managed to raise around another £200 to add to the kitty.

It was Jessie herself who came up with the idea of having her locks chopped for charity.

She said: “She absolutely loves her new hairstyle. It still touches her shoulders. Her dad has money that he’s collected too. That should take the total up to about £1,500.

"I’m so proud of her; she’s got a heart of gold. I’m just beaming.”

Jessie is pleased another girl or boy will benefit from her gesture.

She added: “I’m very proud of what I’ve done for the charity and I really like my new hair. I’m proud of everyone who’s given their money, and I want to say thank you to all of them. It’s gone through the roof!
