A Cleveland Police statement read on Friday, March 19: “We’re appealing for information after a vehicle was driven at a police officer and a member of the public he was speaking to.

They were on Dent Street, Hartlepool, at around 10.20am on Tuesday, March 16, when a dark Vauxhall Astra, possibly on a 57 plate, mounted the pavement and drove directly at them.

“We’d appeal for any witnesses or people with dash cam or CCTV which could assist our on-going enquiries to contact Hartlepool CID via the 101 number, quoting Ref 40806.

“If you don’t want to speak to police, information can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or by phoning them on 0800 555 111.”
