A Cleveland Police statement read on Friday, March 19: “We’re appealing for information after a vehicle was driven at a police officer and a member of the public he was speaking to.

They were on Dent Street, Hartlepool, at around 10.20am on Tuesday, March 16, when a dark Vauxhall Astra, possibly on a 57 plate, mounted the pavement and drove directly at them.

“Both managed to avoid being struck by the vehicle by jumping out of the way. The car then sped off towards Hart Lane.
