New information in search for Hartlepool man missing for nearly a week
Police have issued new photographs and information as they continue to search for missing man Gabriel Kariuki.
Twenty-six-year-old Gabriel, who lives in the Grange Road area of Hartlepool, was last seen by his mum on the evening of Monday, May 17.
Police then have a report of him walking in Victoria Road, near to the town’s Loons public house, towards the Marina at around 12.30am on May 18.
Cleveland Police have said the search is focusing on Hartlepool although they are also exploring his links with Birmingham and Luton.
Officers have also updated the description of the clothes he was wearing and thanked the public for sharing Gabriel’s photo, before adding: “We are deeply concerned for Gabriel’s welfare.”
The force say Gabriel was wearing a blue corduroy jacket with a cream shearling collar.
This jacket was a waist-length, jean jacket style.
He was also wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a green hooded top underneath the jacket and orange Nike brand trainers. He had a black rucksack with him.
Gabriel is described as a black male, medium build, around 5ft 6in tall with black hair which was braided on top and shaved at the sides.
A Cleveland Police statement said: “Our missing person inquiry is focusing on Hartlepool and the wider Cleveland area but we also know that from his personal and working life Gabriel had links to Birmingham and Luton.
"We are working closely with British Transport Police as Gabriel may have travelled to these areas by train.
"Gabriel’s family are desperate for news.
Detective Superintendent John Bent, who is leading the missing person inquiry, said last week that Gabriel had a close relationship with his mum and that she was ‘very distressed’ at his disappearance.
He said: “We’re in close contact with Gabriel’s mum who is understandably very distressed and says it is absolutely out of character for her son to not be in contact with her.
"She was already concerned about the fact he was experiencing low mood in recent weeks."
Anyone with any information about Gabriel’s disappearance is urged to contact Clevealnd Police on 101, quoting reference number 079458.
