New project launches at Seaton Carew’s Hornby Park to help over 65s get active and stay connected
A new project designed to help residents aged 65 and over become more active and socially connected is set to launch at Hornby Park this November.
Social Steps, an initiative spearheaded by Age UK Teesside, will take place every Friday at 2pm at Hornby Park, in Elizabeth Way, Seaton Carew, starting from November 6.
Funded by the London Marathon Foundation, the programme aims to support older residents by providing accessible and enjoyable activities that promote physical health, confidence, independence and social engagement.
Social Steps participants will be encouraged to take small steps towards a more active lifestyle in a supportive and welcoming community setting.

Alexandra West-Oyston, community in motion support worker for Age UK Teesside, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be launching Social Steps and couldn't be more excited to partner with a fantastic venue like Hornby Park.
“Staying active and maintaining social connections is vitally important to the overall wellbeing and independence of our over-65s.
“By working together with Hornby Park, we are creating a safe, welcoming space where older residents can build their physical confidence, improve their mobility and make wonderful new friendships along the way.”
The initiative has already been warmly welcomed by Hornby Park.

As well as being the home of Seaton Carew’s sports clubs, it also plays host to Seaton Carew Community & Sports charity (SCCS), which has placed a strong emphasis on supporting older residents.
Monica Vaughan, chair of the Trustees of SCCS, said: “It is incredibly important for a community facility like Hornby Park to promote and host positive, life-enhancing events like Social Steps.
“Over recent years, we have worked extremely hard to develop our offer and provide meaningful services and activities for everyone, including our popular warm hubs and community walking groups.
“Partnering with Age UK Teesside on this fantastic project is a natural next step for us, and we are proud to continue making Seaton Carew a supportive, thriving place for all ages.”
Anyone aged 65 and over who is looking to move more, boost their wellbeing and meet new people is encouraged to join.
