Pop video vibe wins Brothers of Dance a place in semi-final of The Greatest Dancer

Brothers of Dance have won themselves a place in the next stage of The Greatest Dancer with their “awesome” performance tonight.

The nine-strong contemporary dance group, which includes Kieran Prince, 20, from Blackhall Rocks, were challenged to use their stage skills in a new way on the BBC One show, which set each of the seven acts the task of performing a routine in a different genre than they are trained in.

Thankfully their dance captain is Cheryl, with the singer proving inspiration as they prepared for their latest appearance on tonight’s show, Saturday, February 22.

Ahead of their display, viewers saw the dancers gather the “Mothers of Dance” as their mams sat around a table and shared their pride in the group.

The team moved to Don’t Start Now by Dua Lipa, with their mesmerising display winning the highest score of the night from the studio audience with 96.2%.

They and fellow Northeasterners, Sunderland-based Lily and Joseph, who are also mentored by Cheryl, scooped a place in next Saturday’s semi-final after viewers voted to back them in the next stage.

The winner of the programme, which is presented by Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo, will win £50,000 and the chance to showcase their talent when Strictly Come Dancing when it returns later this year.

The semi-final will go out next Saturday at 6.30pm, with Vale knocked out of tonight’s show.

Panellist Todrick Hall said of their performance: “I thought it was so awesome, I think it’s the best performance of the night.”

Oti Mabuse reacted by saying: “I loved, loved, loved it, I thought it was very contemporary, so well done.

“As a group you moved so well together.”

However, judge Matthew Morrison told them he had expected “more wow” and thought Cheryl had made the wrong choice of track for them, leading her to hit back with “96.2% of the audience disagree.”
