Proud to be a Poolie as the town applauds the frontline workers

All across town, people came together to applaud, cheer, and pay tribute to the frontline workers who are fighting the Coronavirus.
They shouted ‘thank you’ and some sang as part of the emotional nationwide tribute at 8pm last night.

Hide AdAnd no-one appreciated it more than Micky Day, founder of the town charity Miles For Men, which has helped the sick and vulnerable across the town for years.
It proved, he said, that the town was ‘Heartlepool’ in the way it came together yet again.
He added: “What a fantastic display from Heartlepool. The full town applauded the key workers and our very own NHS was humble too see it.”
He said: “This past week and especially yesterday, as always I am proud to be a Poolie.”

Hide AdThe message circulating on social media asked people to ‘either stand on doorsteps, or open a window and clap and cheer as loudly as you can for all the frontline workers - NHS staff, carers, food and medicine delivery drivers, shop workers and anyone else on the frontline, risking their own lives to make yours better’.”
Christine Fewster, chief executive of the Hartlepool Carers group, previously told the Hartlepool Mail: “Whave many people working on the frontline, risking their lives including many unpaid carers.
“Without their dedication, love and support many vulnerable people would not receive the essential support needed.”
