Senior Hartlepool golfers raise hundreds of pounds for town hospice, despite pandemic

Kind-hearted golfers have been praised for raising hundreds of pounds for Hartlepool’s Alice House Hospice despite Covid.

The Seniors Section of High Throston Golf Club still managed to raise £500 for their chosen charity of the year in spite of lockdowns and other restrictions.

Alice House was chairman Arthur Turnbull’s chosen charity and the seniors have supported the hospice in previous years.

It is a cause close to a number of players’ hearts, particularly for the care it gives to people living with cancer.

Members raised the money through raffles, bran tubs and a putting competition.

Mr Turnbull said: “It’s been very difficult over the last year. We are sorry we couldn’t do more but every little helps.”

Alice House community fundraiser Janice Forbes said: “Its always a pleasure to meet the senior members of High Throston Golf Club.

"Each year they fundraise for the hospice and its great to receive £500 in what has been a difficult 15 months for us all.”
