David Smith, district secretary of The Oddfellows Friendly Society Cleveland and Durham Branch, is planning a slap up night of entertainment at the Best Western Grand Hotel in Hartlepool next March.

It is set to include a three-course meal in the ballroom and entertainment by Sandy Smith, a multi-award winning international singer based in Stockton, and Gary Grace a top vocalist of Sinatra, The Rat Pack, jazz and big band music.

Proceeds will go to helping the hospice provide specialist palliative care to patients from Hartlepool and East Durham.

But David, who has also raised money for ten years by putting on musical concerts in the town, is inviting local companies to sponsor tables of ten people at £275 (£27.50 per person).

He said: “One of the main purposes of the Society is to support local charities who need assistance in any form.

“Linked to this 20 years ago my father-in-law suffered from stomach cancer and in his final days he received wonderful treatment at the old Alice House in Hutton Avenue in Hartlepool which I have never forgotten.”

David has been in contact with the fundraising director at Alice House for support and also the events team at the Grand Hotel.

The date of the event has yet to be announced pending sufficient interest from the community, but it would be on a midweek day.
