A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities and lottery players have raised more than £500 million to date for thousands of good causes in Britain and beyond.

Monday’s draw was promoted by the NSPCC, which has received more than £3.9 million in funding from the lottery.

The NSPCC is the leading children's charity in the UK and fights to end child abuse and neglect in every community.

It helps children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, protects those at risk, and works to find new ways to prevent abuse from happening in the first place.

Hartlepool’s double success follows just weeks after Peterlee enjoyed two quick wins within the space of week.

Four people from Bruce Kirkup Road received £1,000 each on April 23 while six players from Dickins Walk received an identical sum each just five days later.

Local charities wanting to benefit from the lottery can apply for funding from August. For more information, please visit www.postcodelottery.co.uk.
