The Hartlepool youngster who is celebrating his birthday by walking 100 miles for charity

Lewin Tubuna is walking 100 miles during August to support Alice House Hospice and even the pandemic won’t stop him.

Lewin originally planned to do the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge – climbing the peaks of Pen-y-ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) – in under 12 hours.

But the coronavirus restrictions meant he had to put that idea on hold.

Lewin, though, came up with an alternative challenge closer to home. He is walking 100 miles this month for the hospice and has already got £1,337 towards his £3,000 total.

He set off this week and mum Lynsey said: “We started off with a 3.3mile walk around the Headland.”

Lewin himself added: "I have had to postpone my Three Peaks Challenge due to the coronavirus and all the things that are going on in the world at the moment.

"But to get more funds in for my charity event, I decided to do 100 miles of walking throughout August and if you have not already, please leave donations.”

Lewin said any support would ‘mean the world to me because it is going to a really good cause’.

The Hartlepool youngster, who will be 12 this month, is always keen to help others. In 2016, he raised £1,800 for Miles for Men by doing a 10-mile sponsored bike ride on his eighth birthday. He went even further two years later on his 10th birthday.

Lewin raised more than double his initial target of £2,500 when he rode from Whitehaven in Cumbria back to Hartlepool.

He did it on behalf of Alice House Hospice and won the hearts of supporters who followed his progress on social media.

After the first epic day of 70 miles of cycling, he said: “I have had a little cry. A bit emotional.”

But Lewin said he would carry on because the people in Alice House Hospice were more important than his aching legs

His achievement saw him win the Child of Achievement trophy at the 2019 Best of Hartlepool Awards.

But Lewin was not finished with his fundraising and he has constantly thought of others.

Earlier this year, he raised money for the hospice when he held an online raffle, sold 100 tickets in 90 minutes and raised £500.

Now he is hoping to gather in more money for Alice House through his latest fundraising adventure.
