Cleveland Police confirmed on Thursday, December 10, that a 25-year-old man was detained on suspicion of rape and a 45-year-old man was detained on suspicion of attempted rape and sexual assault “following a three-month investigation reportedly involving a number of adult female victims”.

The force said that searches were being carried out on Thursday at a “commercial premises” on York Road, in Hartlepool, as part of the investigation.

Today, (Friday) police have confirmed that the two men arrested have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Victims of rape or sexual abuse can contact Cleveland Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The Teesside Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) can also be contacted for help and support, regardless of whether or not the offence has been reported to police.
