Two treated at scene of Hartlepool collision as A689 reopens following rush-hour closure

Two people needed medical treatment at the scene of a rush-hour collision.

The Hartlepool-bound carriageway of the A689 was closed between Billingham and Greatham following the incident on Tuesday, March 25, at around 7.40am.

Motorists were urged to “avoid the area and seek and alternative route” before the road later reopened.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At 7.40am on Tuesday, March 25, police were called to a collision on Stockton Road in Billingham involving approximately five vehicles.

"Ambulance and Cleveland Fire Brigade were also at the scene.

"A passenger in one of the vehicles reported pain to her leg. The road was closed but has since reopened."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision this morning (25 March) shortly before 8am on the A689, near Billingham.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the incident. Two patients were treated and discharged on scene."
