Watch Poolies pink procession as fans don their fancy dress for final away game

Pools fans were not just showing support for their team, but for two local charities

Hundreds of Hartlepool United fans turned the away stand at Boston United’s Jakemans Community Stadium into a sea of pink for the club’s now famous fancy dress display.

Poolies swapped their blue and white stripes for pink perms, shell suits and headbands and there was even pink panthers and flamingos spotted amongst the crowd.

Pools fans have become renowned for their tradition of dressing up for their final away trip of the season, with supporters making waves on social media and headlines nationwide having travelled across the country as Smurfs, Oompa-Loompas, stormtroopers, knights and penguins.

And this year the theme of dressing in pink was all to support two local charities, Breast Cancer and Alice House Hospice.

Ahead of the game, the club released pink themed tee-shirts, with profits going to the chosen charities.

Club director John Pearson said: “This is something our fans take huge pride in every year and it has become a real part of Pools identity, especially around that final away day.

"By turning Boston pink this year, we are not only continuing that tradition but giving it a clear purpose.

"It's a chance to come together behind two causes that mean a great deal to people across our town and to use football as a force for good.”
