This year’s Race for Life will be held on the Seaton Promenade on Sunday, July 2 and organisers would love to see more runners than ever getting involved in the charity event.

Last year, 1,141 people tackled the seafront course and raised more than £57,500 for Cancer Research UK.

Claire Wase, the Cancer Research Senior Area Event Manager for Scotland, North East England & Northern Ireland, said: “This year, more than 100 entries have already been received.”

The cost of taking part is £10 for boys aged 6 to 12, and girls aged 6 to 15, and £14.99 for women aged from 16 upwards.

Both a 5k and 10k run are planned on the Hartlepool course.

Claire continued: “Every week, nearly 300 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North East. That’s why we’re calling on women in Hartlepool to sign up and stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the fight against this devastating disease.

“It doesn’t matter how fit or fast you are because Race for Life is not competitive. It’s the chance to be part of a fun-loving and fearless army of women who are motivated to help raise money for life-saving research.”

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Thanks to advances in research, more people in the North East are surviving cancer than ever before.

But to help even more people survive, Cancer Research UK needs people to do their bit.

Claire added: “Race for Life is a unique, moving and inspirational event and we’re calling on local women to join the fight and meet us at the starting line. With fire in their bellies and trainers at the ready, we know that the brave ladies of Hartlepool are ready take on the challenge and help beat cancer sooner.”
