Police appeal after motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the A19 where a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries.

A doctor led medical team had to perform surgical procedures on the roadside to stablise the patient before the Great North Air Ambulance crew flew him to James Cook University Hospital.

The motorcyclist suffered leg injuries, internal injuries, a dislocated shoulder and broken ribs following the crash.

Police are not appealing for witness to the incident, which happened on the A19 southbound at Billingham yesterday afternoon, to come forward.

The collision took place at around 4pm and involved the motorcyclist, from the Eaglescliffe area, a blue Ford Fiesta and a red Honda Civic.

Police closed the A19 in both directions whilst the air ambulance landed and roads were reopened at around 5.25pm.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact PC Paula Metcalfe-Smith from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting event number 084492.
