Police dog and handler bring down burglary suspect in the town

Burglary suspects have been detained in Hartlepool after items were recovered.

Officers responding to a report of a man behaving suspiciously in a Hartlepool street in the early hours of this morning apprehended two people in possession of suspected stolen goods.

Police were called at around 3.30am this morning to Lady Mantle Close in Bishop Cuthbert, after a member of the public reported a man behaving suspiciously, carrying tools and a pressure washer whilst riding a pedal bike.

A 35-year-old man was apprehended by a police dog and dog handler after he attempted to make off from the scene on a pedal cycle. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A 37-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of burglary. Both suspects are currently in police custody.

Following the recovery of items such as tools, a boxed garden trimmer and bottles of alcohol, officers were able to use the power of social media to trace the victim of the alleged burglary.

Detective Sergeant Phil Agar, said: “We would like to thank those members of the public who shared the information that we posted on social media. This assisted us greatly in tracing the owner of these items and they will be returned at the earliest possible opportunity.”
