The latest discovery of around 160 mature plants at a house in Tankerville Street, Hartlepool, is only around 450 yards away from where police found 250 plants, worth £75,000, in a house in St Paul’s Road last week.

Police do not believe the two farms to be linked.

Hartlepool Neighbourhood Police Team hailed the latest find as: “Yet another good result for Hartlepool Policing Team and more drugs off the streets.”

A drugs warrant was executed in the street following information provided by the public and officers from the Operational Support Unit.

A spokesman for the team said the plants were mature and ready to be harvested before being sold on the streets.

They added: “These plants would be worth thousands of pounds to the drug dealer, but are now destined for destruction and not into the hands of vulnerable people.

“We would like to thank our community for providing us with support and information so we can tackle these drugs that bring so much misery.”

No one has been arrested in connection with the find.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “There were approximately 160 plants recovered, estimated to be worth around £85,000.”

The air was thick with the smell of cannabis as two police vans and a vehicle marked Crime Scene Investigation remained outside yesterday.

One resident, a 69-year-old man, who did not wish to be named, said: “The police have been there a while so it must be big.

“You are never going to stamp it out. If there is a demand then there will always be a supply.

“Obviously, I would like it to be nice and quiet and no problems.”
A woman in the street added: “It was a bit of a shock actually. No-one wants this on your doorstep.”

Last year, two Vietnamese illegal immigrants were jailed for eight month each after 458 plants worth around £250,000 were found in neighbouring properties in the street.
