Police renew appeal for information after making two more arrests in Scott Fletcher murder probe

It brings the total to seven who have been arrested as part of the investigation into into Mr Fletcher’s disappearance in May 2011.

The latest arrests were made earlier this week, with men aged 31 and 32 arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder before later being bailed.

Detective Superintendent Jon Green said: “Scott’s family has been informed of this week’s arrests, however I would like to stress that a body has not yet been located.

“Scott was reportedly last seen on May 11, 2011 at around 8.20pm, near to the Jet garage on the A181 at Wheatley Hill in Durham.

“I would again ask anyone with information which could help to contact Cleveland Police via the non-emergency number 101.”

The other five arrests were made in December, with men aged 36, 48, 32 and two aged 38 all bailed.

The disappearance of Mr Fletcher, 28, a much-loved dad to Lucie, eight, and 10-year-old stepson Bradley, left his family distraught.

His mum Julie explained in December how the murder probe had felt like a bodyblow.

She said: “It felt a bit like a physical blow because that little bit of hope has gone.

“Although it was getting smaller and smaller, I still can’t comprehend that he is dead, so it is very, very hard.”

Julie, who lives at Bishop Cuthbert with husband John, said she believes there are still people out there with vital pieces of information and appealed for them to tell the police to help bring closure to Scott’s family.
