Proposals have been submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council planning department for a new waste management facility working with metals at land at Graythorp Industrial Estate.

The scheme from Ferrexo Ltd would create storage and distribution, office and welfare buildings at the site which would manage and recycle both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Plans state the move would create four new full-time jobs and 10 new part-time roles.

A planning statement, submitted by England Lyle Good on behalf of the applicant, states the proposals are in keeping with the area and would benefit the borough.

It said: “The layout of the development has been carefully considered to ensure the site can be used effectively and efficiently.

“The appearance of the buildings on site will be wholly appropriate for the industrial setting.

“The buildings have been located on site so as to be as neighbour-friendly as possible and to have minimal impact on surrounding users both in terms of visual impact and disturbance.

“There would be no adverse impacts from the development proposals that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits of supporting the existing local business.”

Plans also state the proposal would bring back into use a disused site for the purpose allocated in the Hartlepool Local Plan.

In total three buildings would be occupied on the site, including an office featuring a kitchen and bathroom, and a steel container which would act as a welfare unit.

There would also be a large rectangular building for storage and distribution.

The site would be created on vacant brownfield land and would not be open to the public, with 10 parking spaces provided for staff.

Access would be taken from the existing estate road to the north west corner of the site, which in turn adjoins the Tees Road.

A decision is expected to be made on the plans by the council planning department next month.
