Hartlepool Borough Council Neighbourhood Services Committee approved plans for the five-year highway maintenance programme for the area, starting with 2020/21

Council officers expect the capital grant allocation for highway maintenance from the government will be £1,188,000 next year, broadly similar to 2019/20, although the funding has yet to be confirmed.

Tony Hanson, assistant director for environment and neighbourhood services on the council, said the roads in the programme are those identified as ‘most in need of repair’.

Conditions of highways are established primarily from information obtained from scanner vehicles and course visual inspections, carried out annually by specialist contractors.

However, due to a large number of roads receiving the same condition rating, results are also supplemented by ratings carried out in-house by council chiefs and consideration given to requests from councillors and residents.

Three sections of the A689 have been outlined for resurfacing work, including the Owton Lodge Roundabout, Belle Vue Way northbound and Brierton to Stockton northbound, costing a total of £160,000.

Full reconstruction works will take place on sections of Truro Drive, the only road set for full reconstruction next year, which is estimated to cost £205,000.

Sections of Coronation Drive and Dalton Piercy Road are due to be resurfaced at estimated costs of £65,000 and £33,000 respectively.

The top section of Park Road, the A689 end of Brierton Lane and the Station Lane end of Elizabeth Way, are all due for resurfacing, with estimated costs £40,000, £38,000 and £36,000 respectively.

The section of King Oswy Drive near to the school, Whitby Street South and Mainsforth Terrace, from Burn Road to the end, are also listed for resurfacing, and estimated to cost £30,000, £29,000 and £27,000.

Finally Parish Row in Greatham is due to be resurfaced, estimated at £10,000.
