Hartlepool Borough Council bosses have reported after the latest inspections from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) 14 of the 16 care homes in the town have been rated as Good, equating to 87.5%.

This leaves just two which are rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ by the care watchdog, with none of the homes in the town having the top rating of ‘Outstanding’ or the lowest rating of ‘Inadequate’.

This is an improvement from the 75% rated as ‘Good’ in March 2019 and the 81% figure reported in November 2019.

This comes after West View Lodge moved from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ following the publication of the report in December from their latest inspection.

De Bruce Court also had a report published from their latest inspection in December, however the care home was again rated ‘Requires Improvement’.

Jill Harrison, director of adult and community based services, states in a report to go before the committee of the same name next week, the council are continuing to work with partners to improve care homes in the town.

She said: “The committee has identified care home provision for older people as a priority due to the role of care homes in supporting vulnerable older people.

“The increase in homes rated as ‘Good’ is very positive and demonstrates that the continued commitment from providers along with support from the council and partner agencies are driving up quality.

“The council remains committed to supporting further improvements in care quality through the Care Quality Improvement Programme which has been reported to committee previously and will continue to support all care home providers to deliver the best possible outcomes for local people.”

She also noted homes rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ have action plans that are closely monitored by link officers to ensure improvements are made.

The event included sessions covering improving oral health care in care homes, hospital admissions and discharge, and an update on community liaison services.

Providers are also being offered free training delivered locally within Hartlepool which will be provided by the North East Ambulance Services regarding falls and sepsis.
