Welcoming the news of the falling case rate, Hartlepool Borough Council health bosses thanked the public for their efforts to continue social distancing, but stressed that people must continue to follow the guidelines.

Craig Blundred, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Acting Director of Public Health, said: “We’re pleased that the figures are heading in the right direction, but we’re not out of danger yet.

"People have been doing well so far in the battle against Covid-19, but nobody should become complacent.

"It’s vital that everyone continues to follow the social distancing rules at all times, maintain good hygiene and not take any risks.”
