Pools mascot H'Angus ready to join Jeff Stelling on marathon walk

Monkey mascot H'Angus has already smashed his fundraising target for a cancer charity two weeks before he is due to take part in a marathon walk.

The man beneath the costume, Michael Evans, will join Sky Soccer Saturday presenter and proud Poolie Jeff Stelling when he walks around 26 miles from Coventry to Leicester on Sunday, March 27.

Jeff is attempting to complete 10 marathan walks in as many days between Hartlepool United’s Victoria Park and Wembley Stadium.

Both he and Nissan worker Michael, 31, of Trimdon Station, are doing it to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. He has almost doubled his initial target of £500.

Engineering firm M5Tec Ltd, in Castle Eden. run by Carl Jones and Craig Chalder gave Michael £50.

They said: “We also asked Michael if there was any other way in which we could help him throughout the walk. He mentioned that Bill Reid had already generously supplied H’Angus with walking shoes, we therefore offered to supply H’Angus with a waterproof coat for the journey.”

And Hartlepool company Eco Timber sponsored Michael £150 for visiting the firm and being photographed with boss Richard Brackstone’s family.

Michael said: “M5Tec support prostate cancer. Then when I was £150 off my target I joked on my Just Giving page that if someone paid it I would go round as H’Angus and give them a cuddle.

“All the businesses have been spot on and I’m really grateful”.
