Ray Tweddle, affectionately known to many as Twed, who previously owned Streamline Taxis passed away early on Saturday morning.

In 2013, Ray spent seven months in hospital after being suddenly struck down by Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare viral condition which left him temporarily paralysed and unable to walk.

While in hospital, he married his partner Julie who had been the love of his life for almost 10 years after proposing in intensive care.

Streamline colleagues later completed a sponsored walk from Peterlee to their Hartlepool base for ward 26 at James Cook Hospital with Ray joining in the final few hundred yards in his wheelchair.

They raised over £1,000.
