Probe into drive-by that saw man shot in genitals – investigation update

TWO suspects arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a drive-by shooting have been bailed again by police.

The two Wingate men, aged 24 and 27, were arrested in connection with the shooting of a man, named locally as Keith Robinson, 56, in the groin and legs.

The victim was standing in his garden around 2.30pm on Monday, August 18 when a number of vehicles pulled up into the quiet close of Brackendale Court, in Station Town near Wingate, and opened fire.

Police said the victim was shot at numerous times before the vehicles sped away from the scene.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics and the force helicopter rushed to help.

He was rushed to hospital though his injuries were not said to be life-threatening.

Durham Police confirmed that the two suspects have been re-bailed till the end of October while their enquiries continue.

Their initial investigations led them to believe that it was a planned and targeted attack.

Police said while the incident was shocking he stressed such cases are rare for the area.
