Rescue teams pull man from sea after fall between boat and Hartlepool's Headland fish quay

Hartlepool RNLI, the town’s Coastguard Rescue Team, Cleveland Police and the North East Ambulance Service were called to the incident shortly after 5.10pm today, Friday, September 25, after reports the man had fallen into the water.

The man was later taken to hospital for further treatment after initial checks carried out at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard team said: “The casualty was helped from the water by fishermen onto the vessel where he was assessed for injuries.

"After being assessed they were stretchered from the vessel by ourselves and lifeboat crew into a waiting ambulance to be taken to be treated for their injuries.”

The volunteer RNLI crew launched its inshore lifeboat Solihull within minutes of the alert.

A spokesman for the charity said: “We were on scene within a minute and it was discovered that the person who had fallen in the water had been helped ashore and was being dealt with by paramedics on board a fishing boat.

"A further two volunteer RNLI crew members were ferried across to the scene of the incident by the inshore lifeboat where they assisted the local Coastguard team move the casualty from the fishing boat to an ambulance and then to hospital.

“The inshore lifeboat returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station at 6.05pm and was refuelled and made ready for service by 6.35pm.”
