I write to the people of Hartlepool in the hope they may be able to verify the identity of a foundling who was adopted by a couple near to London in 1937.

My genealogical research shows her natural parents are deceased and the closest family members moved abroad.

I am seeking living relatives such as third cousins, who are distant enough to be unaware of their connection but still close enough for DNA to prove it.

Ideally I am looking for direct descendants named Burns, from the 1848 marriage in Durham of John Burns to Margaret Stockdale.

They had seven children including daughters, so other surnames such as Hedley or Wright may be as effective.

They lived in George Street, Hartlepool in 1861 and lived in a house and shop in Prissick Street in 1891.

Anyone who believes they are related, and are willing to provide their DNA, please contact me at [email protected] with requisite details, or at the address below.

I am willing to pay the cost of DNA sampling and the donor will have a comprehensive write-up.
