'˜Set-back' was humiliating

As predicted, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon suffered a humiliating setback when an opinion poll showed a decisive slump in support for Scottish independence.

This followed her constant posturing and bickering, demanding that the UK should stay in the single market at all cost.

She launched a new conversation on Scottish independence, despite warnings to contain her pomposity and, to cap it all, to ignore the priorities of the people of Scotland in pursuit of her own nationalistic agenda.

I believe former Defence Minister Sir Gerald Howard described her antics as “an English county council chairperson having a fancy title and an overblown ego”.

His statement just about covers Sturgeon’s attempts to sway the Scottish electorate into circumstances they may later regret, in view of the EU’s uncertain future.

They should seriously consider the long-term strategy of leaving the two governments to work closely together, and secure the best deal possible for Scotland and the whole of the UK.
