Seven taken to hospital with 'significant injuries' following Coast Road crash


Two air ambulances were among the emergency services called to three-vehicle collision which occurred at 2.30pm on Wednesday, September 2.
The North East Ambulance Service has now confirmed seven people have been taken to hospital with ‘significant injuries’ following the crash on the Coast Road on Milton Avenue, in Blackhall Colliery.

Hide AdA ambulance spokeswoman said: “We dispatched 13 resources to the scene and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance who dispatched two helicopters.


“We have treated seven patients with significant injuries and they have now been taken to three hospitals in the area.”
The road remains closed on Wednesday evening as emergency services deal with the incident and an inquiries are carried out.
Posting on social media earlier this afternoon, a Durham Constabulary spokesman said: “The incident happened at about 2.30pm.

Hide Ad“Durham Constabulary, Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, North East Ambulance Service and Great North Air Ambulance are all in attendance.
“Several people have been taken to hospital and the extent of their injuries are currently unknown.
“Emergency services are expected to remain at the scene for a significant period.
“People are asked to avoid the area and the road remains closed.”
