Organisers say the event is new for 2016 and will include group vocal training sessions.

They will cover everything from close harmony singing to choir work.

Singing lessons on both a one-to-one and small groups are being planned by society officials.

Sessions for children aged from seven to 14 are planned between 6pm and 7pm. Then, the attention turns to the adults which, for the taster session, is anyone over 15. This will be held from 7.15pm to 8.30pm.

Sarah Barton, the musical director for the society’s junior section, said: “A lot of members were keen to do something a bit different and we thought some kind of choir would be good to learn different skills.

“But this is open to anyone as well.”

The society has just marked its 60th year in existence. It was formerly known as the Gilbert & Sullivan Society. It was based in Walmsley Hall, which was in Osborne Road, in Hartlepool, before it moved to the Stage Society Hall, in the Throston Grange Community Centre.

As well as the long-running senior section, there is also a junior society, which was formed in September 2012.

All rehearsals are held in the community centre, which is in Glamorgan Grove, Hartlepool.

Last year was a busy year for the society, which had a packed programme of events.

They included a show called Thoroughly Modern Musicals, a Christmas singalong and spooky fun in Ward Jackson Park.
