South Tyneside Mayor and Mayoress launch community shop

The Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside have launched a new community shop.

Councillor Richard Porthouse and his wife Patricia, joined volunteers at the Bilton Hall Community Shop in Low Simonside Community Centre.

The official opening will be marked by a Rummage Day this Sunday from 11am-3pm when there will be second-hand goods for sale.

Free soft play and a disco will be on offer for youngsters between 11am and 3pm and refreshments will be available from the Community Diner.

New classes being set up include, Mondays: yoga classes, 5pm-6.15pm; Thursdays: 6pm-8pm Stitch and Sew classes; Thursdays: Sugar Craft/Modern Cake Decorating classes, 6.30pm-8pm.

The Mayor said: “I’m sure this facility will soon become the very heart of the community.”
